Regional air quality models and the regulation of atmospheric emissions

چکیده
This paper investigates regional air quality model performance and the regulation of atmospheric emissions. Although evaluation of regional models cannot be reduced to a set of rules, the paper shows ways of developing better understanding of model performance. It draws on studies in recent years by the Environment Agency to quantify the uncertainty in predictions of regional air quality models. It is argued that a decision by a regulator on how to use a regional air quality model should be based on both operational evaluation (involving comparison with observation) and diagnostic

Air Quality Impacts and Benefits under U.S. Policy for Air Pollution, Climate Change, and Clean Energy
Policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions can also reduce outdoor levels of air pollutants that harm human health by targeting the same emissions sources. However, the design and scale of these policies can affect the distribution and size of air quality impacts, i.e. who gains from pollution reductions and by how much. Traditional air quality impact analysis seeks to address these question...

Air pollution is one of the major threats to environment in the present time. Increase in degree of urbanization is a major cause of this air pollution. Due to urbanization, vehicular activities are continuously increasing at a tremendous rate. Mobile or vehicular pollution is predominantly degrading the air quality worldwide. Thus, air quality management is necessary for dealing with this seve...

متن کاملEvaluation of PM2.5 Emissions in Tehran by Means of Remote Sensing and Regression Models
Defined as any substance in the air that may harm humans, animals, vegetation, and materials, air pollution poses a great danger to human health. It has turned into a worldwide problem as well as a huge environmental risk. Recent years have witnessed the increase of air pollution in many cities around the world. Similarly, it has become a big problem in Iran. Although ground-level monitoring ca...
متن کاملGas-to-Particle Conversion Process between Ammonia, Acid Gases, and Fine Particles in the Atmosphere
Ammonia emissions are associated with many agricultural operations including animal and poultry operations, waste and wastewater treatment operations, and fertilizer and manure land applications. The fate of ammonia released to atmosphere is affected by interaction with other gases, aerosols, and fine particles. These interactions affect the gas-to-particle conversion. This process alters ammon...
